A SMALL APP, ANSWERED BY THE PERSON WHO MADE IT
Getting help
Write to hello@vasly.app. Tell us what you were doing, what you expected, and what happened instead. If it involves a particular clip, the file name and the camera it came from usually settle it.
What Layacut needs
- An iPhone or iPad running iOS 26 or iPadOS 26 or later, or a Mac with Apple Silicon running macOS 26 or later. Intel Macs are not supported, and the app is not sold for them.
- Apple Intelligence turned on, for the on-device director. Without it Layacut still cuts, using a simpler director.
- Footage from a GoPro, a DJI drone, an iPhone, or any camera your device can read. On a Mac, any folder of clips. On an iPhone or iPad, your Photos library.
- A music track you have the right to use.
A clip says it cannot be read
On a Mac it has usually moved or been renamed since you added it: use the relink button on the clip and point at it again. On an iPhone or iPad a clip is found in Photos by its own bytes, so a clip deleted from Photos cannot be read back. Layacut never copies your footage, so it depends on the original staying where you put it.
The reel left a clip out
Every clip you add is offered to the director. If one is missing from a finished reel, the reel is usually too short for the number of clips you gave it. Make it longer and it will come back.
A clip I deleted came back
It should not. A shot you drop stays dropped, and dropping the last shot of a clip keeps the whole clip out. If you want it back, use PUT SHOTS BACK in the reel panel, or add the clip again from the rail.
The first read is slow
Layacut reads every clip once and remembers, so a second reel from the same folder starts immediately. On a large library that first read is the wait, and the app says how far through it is.
